What should I know to complete this level?
Level B2 Reading

By completing this level, you should be able to

  • understand newspaper articles about current problems or issues
  • read at speed with a high level of comprehension
  • read books and stories (fiction) with a high level of understanding
  • read specialist articles with some help for vocabulary (using a dictionary for unfamiliar words is OK)

Level B2 Listening

By completing this level, you should be able to

  • understand a native speaker talking at normal speed
  • understand more complicated arguments on familiar topics
  • understand a news or current affairs programme on television
  • understand the majority of a movie in English
  • identify a speaker’s mood and tone

Level B2 Speaking

By completing this level, you should be able to

  • Present an opinion
  • Explain and support a point of view
  • Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of a point of view
  • Take part in informal discussions
  • Understand social conversations in detail, even in difficult situations (such as a noisy room or when the speaker is using a range of idioms)
  • Respond to a point of view with an understandable level of fluency (although some mistakes are OK)
  • Talk to a native English speaker without misunderstandings on general topics
  • Identify your own errors and correct them
  • talk for extended periods (although with some moments of hesitation while thinking of a word or expression)
  • use grammar that will not cause significant misunderstandings (although some errors are OK)
